Was born at Windsor Castle; she was congenitally deaf but was a proficient lip-reader and fluent in several languages. She married Prince Andrew of Greece, and had five children, including the future Duke of Edinburgh. She converted to Orthodoxy in the late 1920s and returned to Greece on her own. She devoted her time to aiding those in need during the war, working with both the Swiss and Swedish Red Cross. Princess Alice sheltered the Cohen family at the Royal Residence, claiming the mother, Rachel, had been her children’s governess. She visited the family regularly and was eventually questioned by the Gestapo, as they were suspicious of the true identity of her guests. She utilized her deafness to pretend to not understand their questions and was released. Princess Alice was recognized as Righteous Among the Nations on March 11, 1993 for her service to the Cohen family.
