Georg-Duckwitz

Maritime Attaché at the German Embassy in Copenhagen, was a disillusioned member of the Nazi party. In 1943 he told his contacts in the Danish Social Democratic Party of Germany’s imminent plan to deport Denmark’s 7,000+ Jews to the East. Duckwitz had also arranged with the Swedish Prime Minister to accept the displaced Jews, allowing the Danes to successfully move most of them to Sweden. On March 29, 2971, Duckwitz was recognized as Righteous Among the Nations for his role in saving 95% of Danish Jewry.
