Dr-Harold-Feller

Chargé d’Affaires at the Swiss Legation in Budapest, was involved in numerous rescue efforts of the Jews of Budapest. He saved Jews married to Swiss citizens; removed Jews from transit camps and deportations; supplied the Zionist underground with blank protection papers; and hid Jews in his private home, all at great personal risk. In December 1944, he was detained and tortured by the Arrow Cross; following liberation he was arrested by the Soviets and held for a year before finally being released back to Switzerland. Feller was recognized as Righteous Among the Nations for his actions and extreme courage in the face of danger on July 15, 1999.
